9 Reasons To Learn Italian [Immediately!]

My English people are very fascinated by the sound of the Italian language and that’s why they decide to learn Italian.
Like French, Italian just sounds so dreamy and romantic.  Every time you hear someone speak Italian, you half expect a debonair Valentino to suddenly appear out of nowhere and sweep you off your feet and transport you to the Venice canal so he can profess his love for me while being serenaded by the boatman in a gondola. So you should take the plunge and study Buon Giorno and Ti Amo, and you will not regret it, not even a bit. You can learn it in a jiffy.  There are a lot of reasons to learn Italian and here are some of them for English native speaker.

9 reasons to learn Italian

1) GIVES YOU UNDERSTANDING OF YOUR OWN LANGUAGE

Also, you will learn a lot about your own language and open yourself up for another one. As you discover the beauty of a new language, it is inevitable for you to compare it with your native tongue and in effect, learn new things about it. Various languages are related to one another. For example, the Italian adjectives like tremendo, orrendo, innocuo, conspicuo, and mendace have English counterparts that sound almost exactly alike, like tremendous, horrendous, innocuous, conspicuous and mendacious.

Learning a new language makes you understand the etymology of words, enabling you to delineate the foreign roots of your own language, giving you a greater command of it.

2) GIVES YOU THE SMARTS

Another reason to study Italian is that it makes you smarter. A lot of researches concluded that studying something new, like learning a new language, intensifies the cognitive power of your brain and makes your mind sharper. There is also the conclusion that people who have been bilingual since they were little display a higher flexibility in cognition that those who have only been using a single language.

You must learn Italian because it will serve as a life hack. If you have any intentions of impressing your partner when dining at an Italian restaurant, knowing which dish to order might just seal the deal. You will be pleasantly surprised how Italian can greatly help you with your everyday tasks.

5) OPENS DOORS TO NEW LANGUAGES

Learning Italian opens doors to learning new languages. Mastering one language that is classified as a romance language allows you to understand other romance languages and gives you a knack for learning it.

6) MAKES TRAVELLING EASIER

If you plan on visiting Italy, it is imperative that you learn the language. When you master Italian, it makes traveling easier and fun. You will not have a hard time conversing with airport and immigration officials. You can roam around without the fear of being lost. People will not take advantage of you. There is a greater chance of being friend with locals and in the process, discover hidden tourist spots and local haunts. This will not only cut back on your expenses but will also enrich your cultural experience.

7) IMPROVES YOUR HEALTH

Your health will also improve when you learn how to speak Italian. It has been documented that brain aging is slowed down by learning a new language and improves your cognitive abilities.

  1. I totally agree with you that bilingual people are smarter than single language users in general. My friend was born into a multinational family so he knows 3 languages and he’s definitely one of the smartest one in class! I am thinking of sending my son to an Italian language class so that he can expand his horizons and make his mind sharper too.
